Debate Activity One:
The legalization of Surrogacy (“代孕是否应该合法化”)
After learning “校园枪击:震惊之余的思考” and “美国大麻合法化引发的争议”, I arranged a debate activity on the legalization of surrogacy in CHI 406 (advanced level, heritage track) at Princeton University.
Procedure of the Activity:
1) Debate Preparation: complete the preparation sheet which prepares students with the background knowledge and relevant expressions on the topic;
2) Debate Opening Statement Writing;
3) Revising Opening Statement;
4) Classroom Debate;
5) Essay Writing: discuss the underlying issue (e.g., the definition of freedom, social inequality, etc) of the legalization of surrogacy based on classroom debate.
Debate Activity Two:
Which is More Important for a Leader: Morals or Capability?
(领导的人品重要还是能力更重要?)
After learning “总统有了女朋友”, I arranged a debate activity on the standard of good leader in CHI 305 (intermediate level, heritage track) at Princeton University.
Procedure of the Activity:
1) Debate Opening Statement Writing;
2) Revising Opening Statement;
3) Classroom Debate.
In this activity, I emphasized the structure of argumentative essay writing by asking students to bring up opinions, elaborate the opinions and provide evidence step-by step.
